Well, this week's YouTube live reached all the way back to the beginnings of the Giant Angora in the United States.

In February 1999, Candy Haenszel finished her beautiful history, From German to Giant, with one perfect thought: this was not the end.

She certainly was right.

As I worked through what happened next, I found much more than a list of presentations and ARBA decisions. I found breeders who kept trying when one rabbit missed weight by only two ounces, when a senior buck died one week before Convention, when projects changed hands and when life forced people to step away.

Those efforts were not wasted. They preserved rabbits, genetics, records, knowledge and belief. They helped keep the path open long enough for Chestnut to become the first recognized colored Giant Angora variety in 2023.

Now the new ARBA COD rules have opened that door even wider. Our Chocolate Agouti project will need multiple breeders, multiple households, honest evaluation, careful records and a whole Village willing to work together.

The history of the Giant Angora is still being written. This time, more of us have the opportunity to help write it.

The first part of our new Classified Ads section is especially for my fellow Village Elders. You will have one full week to see newly listed Giant Angoras and get first dibs on rabbits that may help move your breeding programs forward.

After that first week, any remaining rabbits can be opened to the entire Giant Angora Village through the new public Classified Ads section on Sinfully Soft.

This gives our Village Elders the first opportunity to connect important genetics, while also creating an easy public place for everyone in our Giant Angora community to find available rabbits. I am very excited to see these new connections grow!
