I made a little change of plans for this week’s live. Instead of diving into every little detail, I decided to start with a friendly overview of rabbit show sanctions.

What Is a Sanction, Anyway?

Sanctions are one of those things we hear about all the time at rabbit shows, but unless you have been the person responsible for purchasing them, submitting reports, or following the points, the entire process can be a little confusing.

In this live, I talk about:

• What a show sanction is
• The difference between ARBA and NARBC sanctions
• Why accurate show reports matter
• How sanctions connect to sweepstakes points, breeder standings, and Rabbit of the Year
• Why everyone involved has a part to play

This is only an overview. I am working on a much more detailed, step-by-step video about the sanctions process, along with an accompanying PDF that you can save and use as a reference.

An Exciting New Wool Breed Specialty Sanction

One especially exciting development is ARBA’s new Wool Breed Specialty grouped sanction.

This specialty includes:

• English Angora
• French Angora
• Giant Angora
• Satin Angora
• American Fuzzy Lop
• Jersey Wooly
• Lionhead

The grouped sanction can be purchased by eligible all-breed clubs, fairs, expositions, and show circuits. It may create some wonderful new opportunities for the wool breeds to be highlighted and promoted together.

There are still plenty of details for clubs and exhibitors to understand, which is another reason I want to create a more complete sanctions video and PDF.

Two Angora Classes at OFFF!

The Oregon Flock & Fiber Festival will be held October 31 and November 1 at the Linn County Expo Center in Albany, Oregon. Workshops begin Friday, October 30.

Classes are already beginning to fill, so if you would like to attend, be sure to check whether there is still a seat available.

There are two wonderful classes for Angora people on Friday, and the schedule makes it possible to take both!

Join me for a hands-on class about evaluating, sorting, grading, and safely storing Angora wool.

We will talk about prime wool, seconds, and thirds, along with staple length, fiber strength, storage, preparing wool for handspinners, and getting fiber ready for commercial mill runs.

My goal is to help Angora breeders present their wool as the truly luxurious, premium fiber that it is.
